The Gift of Faith in Marriage
By Dave Pipitone
Every marriage has ups and downs, joys and sorrows, challenges and victories. That is the way life is. Faith, hope love in marriage are essential. A married couple provides a place for faith as the first strand of three strands to build a lasting friendship. In a Christian marriage, a husband and wife are united for life with God and each other. Faith plays an important role in that reality.
There are three strands of love, faith and hope in every marriage. Faith is the first strand, the first spiritual gift. Faith is gift that helps us believe in what cannot be seen.
For example, we have faith when we plant a tulip bulb in a patch of dirt. We dig a hole, add the bulb, water and fertilizer. Then, we cover up the hole. We don't see all of the complex ways that the bulb absorbs energy and nutrients to grow into a plant and a flower.
Growth is taking place and you have to have faith that it is occurring, even if you can't see it. The tulip would be destroyed if someone kept digging up the bulb to see if roots were forming or the shoots were emerging. Faith and trust go hand in hand.
When a husband has faith in his wife, he believe that she will be her or his best self and grow together with him. When a wife trusts her husband, she is free to open her thoughts, feelings, dreams and hopes with him. When a married couple has faith in God as the third strand in their relationship, they believe in an all loving Parent who will guide, inspire, and help them.
A husband and wife express faith by the way they communicate with each other. Being in a marriage relationship means sharing personal feelings and thoughts with each other person or in writing. The same is true of prayer.
An married man and married woman are individuals and have personal relationships with Jesus Christ. A goals to pray together as a married couple builds a strong and loving marriage.
